Amidst all my many crafting, knitting, and sewing projects, a new project emerges: to suspend all clothing shopping in favor of wearing only things that I can make for myself. Will it work? I don’t have a clue. How long will it last? Don’t know that either. It’s almost the new year, so should I say this is a project for 2012? That seems a little overly ambitious. How about we say we’ll just see where this goes?

I tried the only wearing handmade clothing / not shopping last year, and suprisingly (for me!) I lasted until May! Good for you in attempting this, and good luck! I’m excited to follow along 🙂

    Hi Julie!
Wow, what a great project! You are going to have so much fun with this. I did something kinda like it but it was just for a year to only ‘add’ to my wardrobe things I made. I didn’t make that much but I sure did save a lot of money!!! It was a challenge for sure and sooooo hard to resist buying something. I love your inspiration ‘Makeshift’. I wish she had blogged more about the design and sewing of it.

I can’t wait to read more!

      Thanks, Cathy-
It’s so neat to find others who have been down this route before. I imagine it probably comes with its own rewards, just knowing that that make-it-yourself option is possible.

I think it’s awesome that you’re being overly amitious. It’s better to be overly-something, than nothing at all (:

If you send me an email to: surroundedbywhite@gmail.com I’d like to send you a drawing that might help you work on your Coni pants.

You’re inspiring — I’d love to have more handmade clothes and I’m working on it. I’ve nominated you for the Reader Appreciation Award! http://fibercrush.wordpress.com/2012/10/01/reader-appreciation-award/
